Virginia Mae Albrizio, formerly of Millville, NJ, passed away in Newburgh, NY, with family by her side, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024; three months past her 100th Birthday. She was born February 27, 1924 to Claude and Olive (Sooy) Atkinson in Millville, NJ.
On June 24,1944, she married Joseph Albrizio of Worcester, MA while he was stationed with the Coast Guard in Atlantic City. Eventually moving to Worcester, they had a daughter, Lola, that was born January of 1946. In 1953, they moved back to New Jersey to be closer to her mom and family.
For many years, she worked in Princess Dress Store on High Street. In her later years, she worked as a receptionist for Joffe Lumber Co. in Vineland where she met Donna, Connie, Betty and Florence who became her best friends for many years.
Living on the west side of Millville, she was actively involved with Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church; working with youth groups and also visiting the migrant camps to share the gospel. My parents were known to many as Aunt Ginny and Uncle Joe.
She is survived by her daughter, Lola Kusumoto (Richard), grandson, Joseph (Tara) and great granddaughter, Maggie, granddaughter, Vikki (Joe DiVincenzo). She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Chain and many nieces and nephews who spent a lot of time at our home.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph who died in 1990. She was predeceased by her brothers, William, Edward, Claude and sisters, Verna and Doris.
Grandma,
You taught us the importance of clean living
You will be talked about for generations
“Grandma Albrizio lived to be 100
she grew her own food and ate from her garden” they’ll say
“She swore by eating raw celery, she was tough and didn’t put up with any bull
She loved to cook
She had an amazing garden
She could get anything to grow and never needed to buy the seeds
The flowers, she knew them all
She had a great laugh
She was an artist, painter, knitter, seamstress and had the fashion of a princess.
Her piano playing… ah her piano playing. well that was something will never forget. She could play anything by ear and give it her special flourish”
You are part of our story
We are your legacy and we heard you
And we will share you with our future generations
We love you so much grandma and we will never let you be forgotten
