Raymond T. Burkey Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2025, surrounded by family. A longtime resident of Millville, NJ, Raymond was born in Dunbar, PA, and spent his life dedicated to his family, work, and community.
Ray proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, 101st Airborne. He worked many years as a skilled machinist at Kimble Glass in Vineland, NJ. Ray was an active member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW), serving as President of Local 1812 and served offices within the state chapter of the AFLCIO. He also served on the Millville Board of Education and the Millville Planning Board. Ray enjoyed sports and excelled at many including football, basketball, and softball. He coached at the Millville Midget Football League as well as the Millville Babe Ruth Baseball league and was a Football Official for NJFOA. He enjoyed fishing, scuba diving, golfing, and a good cigar.
Ray is survived by his wife of 64 years Donna Burkey (nee Flack). He leaves behind a loving family including his children Tammy Langsdorf (Kevin), Raymond T. Burkey Jr. (Courtney) and Todd Burkey. He was a cherished grandfather aka “Pappy” to Jordan, Carly, Meghan, Ashley, Madison, and Dylan. He is also survived by his brother Frank Ambrisco. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Raymond Burkey and Anna Jane (nee Pritchard).
A visitation will be held on Saturday April 12, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Christy Funeral Home, 11 West Broad St., Millville, NJ. A memorial service with military honors will begin at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Raymond's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Donate here or to the NJ Veterans Memorial Home at Vineland, 524 North West Blvd., Vineland, NJ 08360. Memories of Raymond and condolences for his family may be shared on his tribute wall.
