Walter C. Garrison Jr., age 86 of Millville, died peacefully Wed. evening, Dec. 19, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born in West Creek, he had lived in Millville most of his life. He was a graduate of Bridgeton High School, class of 1943. He had also attended Bucknell University.
He served in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre as a Seaman First Class during WWII. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with one silver and one bronze star. He also received the Philippine Liberating Ribbon with one star. He was a life member of the Nabb Leslie Post No. 82 of the American Legion where he had served as Post Commander. He was also a member of the Bush Kerrick VFW, Post No. 2169.
He had worked for the City of Millville as an operator in the Water and Sewer Dept. until he retired. Prior to that he had worked for Millville Manufacturing Co.
He was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Millville.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol Linda McGuire of Millville and Patricia McTyre of Woodstown; one sister Naomi Cole of Waverly, NY; one brother Wendal Garrison of Nichols, NY; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Lillian in 1990; eight brothers and sisters and a daughter Donna Lynn Gellert.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sat., Dec. 22, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad St., Millville. There will be a viewing in the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville at a later date.
