Michael S. Romanik Sr., age 76 of Millville, passed away at his residence Wednesday morning, May 6, 2020 with his loving wife by his side. He had been in declining health.
Michael was born in Millville to the late Michael and Beverly (Harris) Romanik. He graduated from Millville High School, attended college, and in 1962 he joined the United States Marines Corp., serving his country for four years.
Michael worked as a Police Officer for the City of Millville for 26 years, and retired in 1996. In 1974, he graduated from the Philadelphia Police Department Canine Corps. as a Canine Officer. This allowed him to become a K-9 Officer in Millville, working closely with his canine companion Boots. After retiring from the Millville Police Department, he worked as an Educational Law Enforcement Officer with Bridgeton Public Schools for 20 years, retiring in 2018.
Michael was a member of the American Legion Nabb-Leslie, Post No. 82 of Millville, the NRA, and he was a New Jersey Certified Firearms Instructor. He absolutely loved baseball, and looked forward to every season. No one could talk to him from opening day through October if there was a game on TV. He enjoyed shooting, fishing, hot rods, motorcycles, fast pitch softball, and spending time with his family and his dogs.
Michael will be sadly missed by his wife of 30 years Mary Jo Taylor-Romanik; his children, Michael S. Romanik Jr.; April L. Hyson (Shawn), and Chad R. Harvey (Shelley) of MD; two sisters, Susan Young of TN, and Lynn Kwap (Bob) of FL; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn Madden, Ryan Brown, Megan Gatier of GA, and Madison, Cullen and Charlotte Harvey of MD; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son Mark Romanik; his step mother Ann Romanik; one sister Bonny Vanaman; and one brother Richard Maychek.
Private graveside services will be in the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Bridgeton.
