Margaret Louise "Peggy" (Southard) Serata, age 71, died Monday afternoon March 11, 2013 in Cumberland Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Born in Bridgeton, she had lived there and in Greenwich as a child and later moved to Florida with her family. She was a former runner-up in the 1957 Miss Bridgeton Contest. She had attended Cumberland County College.
She had worked in Ft. Lauderdale, FL as an endodontics assistant, and later in a doctor's office before retiring and moving to Millville. In her spare time she designed artistic crochet creations. She dearly loved her home and family.
She is survived by her son Curtis C. Hughes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; her daughter Mona Bennett of Vineland; her grandson Zachary Scheller of Bridgeton; two granddaughters Jacklyn M. Hughes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Alyssa K. Bennett of Millville; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her father Charles G. Southard; her mother Verna (Pugh) Southard - Dopirak; her step-father Samuel Dopirak; her sister Jean S. Whyte; and her brother Charles J. "Chick" Southard.
A memorial service to begin at 6:15 p.m., will be held on Wednesday evening, March 20, 2013 in Berry Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 119 N. Second St., Millville.
Burial in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton, will be private at the convenience of the family.
