Margaret I. (Yarina) Karageanes Obituary

Margaret I. (Yarina) Karageanes, age 94 of Millville and Ocean City passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 18, 2025 at the Maurice House in Millville surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Johnstown, PA to the late Alec and Teresa (Salony/Salzony) Yarina, and she graduated from Conemaugh High School.  After High School she began her nursing career as a Practical Nurse at Lee Hospital in Conemaugh, PA.  In 1951 she married her sweetheart, (Jimmy Baby).  In 1960 Margaret and her family moved to Millville.  She continued her education at the Cumberland County College where she received her Associates Degree in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse.

Prior to her retirement, Margaret worked at the Millville Hospital/South Jersey Healthcare.  During her career she was promoted as the Head Nurse of the Oncology Department for the Millville Hospital.  One of her most satisfying accomplishments was assisting other medical professionals with the development of the Oncology Unit which opened in November of 1985.  She was named Unit Coordinator.

Margaret was a member of the Parish of All Saints in Millville and St. Damien Parish in Ocean City.  She enjoyed volunteering with church activities and singing in the choir at St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church.  Spending time with her family and friends was her favorite pastime, especially with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed cooking and baking and always looked forward to Sunday dinners and special gatherings.  She will always be remembered at Christmas and Easter for her famous and delicious nut roll.  She made sure she personally passed her recipe down to her granddaughters and until recently was always present to help and oversee with the preparations.

Margaret will be sadly missed by her children; Jeffrey Karageanes (Cindy) of Millville, Lawrence Karageanes of Bahama, NC, and Cynthia DeGregorio (Douglas) of Millville; three grandchildren, Douglas J. DeGregorio, Dana M. Ashbridge (Larry, Jr.), and Deanna M. DeGregorio; four great grandchildren, Macie M. Ashbridge, Mia M. Ashbridge, Myla M. Ashbridge and Logan A. Dominguez; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband James in 2013; her daughter Sandra Ann Streeper in 2022; and her brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the Parish of All Saints, Buck and Depot Streets, Millville.  Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville.
