Lorraine Marie (Schellhorn) Barber, age 84 of Vineland, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Baker House in Vineland with her family by her side.
Born and raised in Egg Harbor City, she graduated from Egg Harbor City High School, class of 1947. She soon met her husband and spent many years as a Navy wife as they traveled around the country where their children were born.
After her husband was killed in the Vietnam War, Mrs. Barber moved to Vineland in 1966.
She was a homemaker, and she also worked as a bookkeeper for Sears Co. in Vineland for 20 years and retired.
Mrs. Barber was a member of the Gold Star Wives Organization, and she enjoyed reading, gardening and doing needlework.
Mrs. Barber is survived by her children, Robert L. Barber Sr. of Vineland, Jayne Forbes and her husband Glenn of Virginia Beach, VA, and LeAnn Johnson and her husband Howard of Vineland; one sister Margie Hesse; three grandchildren, Robert Lee Barber Jr. and his wife Jalone, April Marie Forbes, and Danielle Marie Johnson; and two great granddaughters, Savannah and Kennedy Barber. She was predeceased by her husband LT. Robert F. Barber, USN; and parents, Albert and Maria (Maier) Schellhorn.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
