Liston Carol Hayes Sr. , 84, of Vineland New Jersey passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Autumn Lake’s in Vineland, NJ on December 9, 2024. He was born and raised around the Parrottsville, TN area where his family home is located. He later relocated to the Vineland/Millville New Jersey area where he raised his family.
Liston “Carol” was best known for his love of animals, the outdoors and meeting up with friends and loved ones at local Wawa’s and enjoying a cup of coffee and a few snacks over a scratch off or two. He retired from the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation. His prior employment included Teleprompter Cable Television, Salem Nuclear Plant, Garwood Mills, Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, Chestnut Tavern and Crescitelli’s Bar.
Liston is survived by his long time love and partner Alice Repin and children Alex (Kristen) Repin and Nina Repin and granddaughter Kay. He is survived by his children Walt (Holly) Hayes, Thomas (Valarie) Hayes, William Hensley, Ethel (Edward “Skip”), and wife/mother Ida Hayes. Liston took a great deal of love and pride in his grandchildren Robert Moore, Walter (Christina) Hayes Jr., James (Rachel) Caldwell, MaryAnn (Brian) Caldwell, Katelynn Hayes, Craig Malick, Kylee Hayes, Lauralyn Hayes, Autumn Hayes, Bella Hayes, and Alice DeGroodt. He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews cousins and life long friends. Liston was preceded in death by parents Walter and Ethel (Dalton) Hayes, son Liston Hayes Jr., grandson Tyler Hensley and siblings Thomas B (Bonnie) Hayes, Essie (Alfred) Brown, Larry (Geneva) Hayes, Buford Hayes, Mary (Edward) Mead, Walter (Elizabeth) Hayes, Laura Mae (Norville) Young, Frank (Ardenas) Hayes, Hence (Eunice) Hayes.
Liston’s greatest love and joy was relishing in the accomplishments of his family and close friends. He was most proud of his boys and nephews who he watched and guided in building and working in their tree business A. Bill’s Tree Service. Liston lived to see his family grow old and prosper. His dream of reaching 85 was just within his grasp before the Lord called him home.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville.
