Joseph "Joe" E. McMahon Sr., age 73 of Millville, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023 at home, surrounded by his family.
Born and raised in Millville to the late James P. and Margaret (Mann) McMahon Sr., he graduated from Millville High School, Class of 1968 and was a life long resident. During his high school years and a few years after, Joe worked at Zellers Sunoco. He attended the Cumberland County Vo-Tech, receiving a four year trade certificate as he began his 47 year career with Wheaton Glass Co.
Joe started in the mold department and retired as a Journeyman Mold Maker from Gerresheimer Glass Co. when the company changed names in 2015.
In 1968 he started volunteering at the American Legion Aide Corp which lasted 11 years, before joining the Millville Fire Department. He was a proud EMT graduate of the first graduating class. Joe served as Past President for the Millville Rescue Squad. He attained his life membership status with the American Legion Rescue Squad, actively volunteering for 53 years with the emergency services with the City of Millville. For 42 years he was an active member with the Millville Fire Department, serving as Deputy Chief. Joe was an assistant leader with Troop 4 Boy Scouts of America.
He was President of the Millville American Little League for two years, and an active coach for the Christy Funeral Home Little League Team. He was an assistant coach for Harold's Heating Farm League. Joe served with the Cumberland County Fire Fighter's Association, as Past President and Delegate for 15 years. He was a member of the New Jersey State Fireman's Association, and assigned as registration committee person at the State Fireman's Convention in Wildwood. He was President of Union Local No. 7, American Flint Glass Workers Union and United Steel Workers Union. Joe attended many conventions as Delegate. He enjoyed white water rafting annually, camping, working on cars and fixing anything, traveling, Cedarville Fire Department bus trips, trips to Lancaster, PA, but most of all he loved family gatherings, especially celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary.
Joe will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Diane (Makos); his children, Dolores Borsani and husband Dennis of Millville, Joseph McMahon Jr. (Stephani) of Hopewell, Phillip McMahon and his wife Michelle of Vineland, Jennifer Rehmann and her husband William of Millville, and his special daughter Daisie Mae; three brothers, James McMahon Jr., Robert McMahon and wife Janice, and Raymond McMahon, all of Millville; one sister Maureen Ziegler of Millville; nine grandchildren, Howard Tomlin, Mark Tomlin, Dean Tomlin, Casey Rehmann, twins, Irelyn and Eryn McMahon, Rebecca Rehmann, Marcella McMahon, and Gabby McMahon; and eight great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at The Parish of All Saints, Buck and Depot Streets, Millville. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Millville.
