Irene M. (Schafer) Olsen, age 83 of Millville, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 at Inspira Medical Center, Vineland. She had been in declining health after her husband died in 2010.
Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Olsen went to Beautician School in Woodbridge, married and raised her family in Edison. In 1974, she and her late husband Oluf A. Olsen Jr. moved to Millville.
She crocheted and knitted, and baked cakes and cookies for the First Assembly of God Church, where she was a long time member. She was an accomplished baker.
Mrs. Olsen is survived by her children, Laura Brunson and husband Paul of Edison, Andrew Olsen and wife Susan of Edison, Rodney Olsen of Bridgeton, and Carl Olsen of Millville; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Oluf A. Olsen Jr.; her parents, Edward and Charlotte (Cox) Schafer; and she was the last survivor of eight siblings.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville. There will be a viewing on Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville.
