  Irene Rose Birnstiel (née Gordon).  It is with great sadness that the family has announced her passing on Saturday, September 2, 2023 age 102 years.
  Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1921, she married Edmund Charles Birnstiel (d. 2018). They were married for 76 years. 
   Irene was a homemaker and later worked for Cumberland County Meals-on-Wheels. 
  She was active in the Millville Church of the Nazarene, enjoyed travel especially in New England, loved to crochet and knit and be with family.   
  She is survived by her sons Edmund (Lillian), Timothy (Linda), sister Faith, half-siblings Charles (Judy), and Myrna (Carl), 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.  ​
  She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund, two sons, Wes (Diane) and James (Pat), sisters Betsy and Grace, brother Joe and grandson, Edmund Joseph Jr.
  A private ceremony was held at Christy Funeral Home and a burial at the Veterans Cemetery in Bridgeton. 
  The family asks that any donations be made to the Cumberland Christian School (Physical Education Department).
