Gilbert Haars Obituary

Gilbert Haars, (affectionately called Pop or Pop-Pop by his step grandchildren & grandchildren) 74 years old, of Vineland, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 17, 2013 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Haars served three years in the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge.
By trade he was an Auto and Diesel Mechanic at various locations in Vineland. He also owned and operated a few gas stations in the Bridgeton (1975), Vineland and Deerfield areas. He worked the last 22 years at Evey Engineering and worked up to the time he was diagnosed with lung cancer.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, going to the casinos and spending time with family. He cared about his family and friends and was generous to all. He was a great role model to many people who loved him.
He leaves behind his loving wife Rena (Weldon) Haars. He will be missed by two sisters, Faye Box and Alice Brazdon; his stepchildren, Cindy Freedman, Wayne Harris, and Donna Harris; and seven step grandchildren. He is also survived by his sons, Mike & Mitchell Haars, two daughters Darlene Haars (husband Joseph Prokapus) and Mary Clunn, and their mother, 1st wife Dorothy Haars; 11 grandchildren; and stepchildren Donna Brown and Dianne Hemple. Additionally he was predeceased by his mother Elsie Langley-Haars of Elmer; father Ernest Haars; and baby brother Ernst Haars.
A celebration of Gilbert's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Cedar Crest Hall, 1976 North East Ave., Vineland. All family and friends are welcome.
Arrangements are under the direction of Christy Funeral Home, Millville.
