Genady "Gene" Vurganov, age 86 of Millville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening, December 6, 2025 at Cooper University Hospital in Camden as the result of an automobile accident. 

Gene was born in Russia to the late Grigory and Anna Vurganov, and as a child, he and his family immigrated to America.

He served in the United States Air Force for 22 years, during which time he became an American citizen. Gene began his military career as a Weather Equipment Repairman, and ended his career as a Weather Equipment Superintendent and a Space Systems Equipment Superintendent.   He was a Vietnam veteran, received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force, and retired as a Master Sergeant.  Gene had opportunities to travel during his military career and continued this love well into his retirement, including a recent trip to Egypt.

Following his military career, Gene had a second career of 26 years at Inspira Health System where he worked as a biomedical technician, repairing and maintaining equipment in the system's various locations.

Gene was known to many as "Mr. Fix It."  His knowledge of repairing broken items was a special gift his family could depend on.  Traveling with his family, and grilling burgers and steaks were a few of his favorite pastimes, but most of all, he adored spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Gene will be sadly missed by his wife of 41 years, Nancy Hammond; his daughter Susan and her husband Bill; son Greg and his wife Pippa; brother Toli Vurganov and his wife Theda; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother Victor.

A private memorial service will be at the convenience of the family.
