Elaine G.  (Parvin) McDowell of Millville, NJ, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, November 14th, 2024. Born in Salem, NJ, Elaine grew up in Newport, NJ, later moving to Millville, NJ, where she raised her five sons.

Elaine worked  for many years as a froster at Wheaton Glass in Millville until retirement.  After retirement Elaine helped operate their family business, The Pondside Tavern.  She was known as “Mom” to many patrons, who often sought her advice. She was known for her candid, honest opinions, warranted or not.

She loved line dancing with her sister and enjoyed  live music, making crafts,  and  was an avid reader.

Elaine was  a beacon of strength.  Anyone who knew her knew that the most important thing in her life was her family. 

Elaine is survived by her loving sister, Henrietta Abbott, stepchildren Kerry Stephen McDowell (Ella) and Tammy McDowell, 9 grandchildren (Regina, Teresa, Robert, Heather, Maria, Paul, Suzanne, Douglas, & Eric) & and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Kerry McDowell, her children Paul, Howard, Kennard, Gary, and Douglas Weldon, her sister Miriam McHugh, her brothers Everett and James Parvin, and her grandchildren Howard Weldon Jr. and Morgan Gibbs.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation at Christy Funeral Home, 11 West Broad St., Millville, NJ, on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. A memorial service celebrating Elaine's life will commence immediately following the visitation at 10:30 am.  Inurnment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Millville, NJ.  Memories of Elaine and condolences for her family may be shared on the tribute wall.
