Edward Michael Kelly Jr. Obituary

Edward Michael Kelly, Jr., 82, of Millville, NJ, passed away peacefully in his sleep the evening of Saturday June 1, 2024.

Ed was born in Reading, PA, in 1941 to Edward Sr. and Jayne (Preskay) Kelly. After graduating from Collingswood High School in 1959, Ed went on to attend Drexel University then to RCA Institute where he completed his computer training program. As an early pioneer as a Computer Engineer, Ed started with Honeywell and held several positions along his long and distinguished career within companies like Perkin Elmer before retiring from Lockheed Martin in 2007.  Ed also spent time within his career helping his longtime friend Bill Marchetty at Marchetty Machinery and was a founding Advisor and the IT Team for blue.

Ed is survived by his beautiful wife of 62 years, Joan, his three sons Doug, Scott and Tim, his brothers Larry and Wayne, and four wonderful grandchildren, Trevor, Teagan, Fiona and Declan.  Ed was a long time resident of Haddon Township, NJ. As a teenager, Ed hit the first ever home run at the newly opened Babe Ruth field. He enjoyed taking his family on amazing camping adventures where he earned ‘Woodsmen of the Year’ honors in ’71-’72, helped found Haddon Township youth soccer, volunteered as a coach in youth soccer and the little league baseball program, and was a member of the Haddon Township Men’s Soccer Team. Ed was an avid fan of aviation and following his beloved Philly sports teams, especially the Eagles. Ed loved traveling with Joan and their friends to go on cruises and exploring other parts of the country. Ed especially loved visiting and spending time with his grandchildren. Ed and Joan moved from Haddon Township to the Four Seasons in the Farmingdale portion of Millville in 2008 where they met new friends, enjoyed the community clubhouse events and lived with their cat Shadow and his beloved bird Shane. Dad’s last hoorah at the Four Seasons clubhouse was dancing the Twist!

A proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). A life well lived and a joker at heart. All who met Ed agree, he was a great man.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for Monday, July 8th  at the Four Seasons community clubhouse in Millville, NJ from 12 pm – 4 pm. The family welcomes donations to Red Oak Hospice in Bridgeton at (856) 341-4900 or to the Freedom Farm Animal Rescue in Cedarville  (609) 442-4005 as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.

Memories of Edward and condolences for his family may be shared on the tribute wall.
