Christina Riley Lehneis, known affectionately as Tina, was born on October 17, 1945, in Millville, New Jersey. Tina courageously and tenaciously battled breast cancer for 20 years. She peacefully passed away on August 9, 2025, at the age of 79.
Tina’s childhood home, the Riley household on Fulton Street, added value to their neighborhood from the beginning. They worked hard through earnest engagement and athletic endeavors, spreading goodness throughout the community. Tina cheerfully walked with friends to the local elementary school, always with an invitation for a conversation or a snack. Her kindness and excellence only spread during her time in school, being voted “Best All Around” by her classmates during her senior year at Millville High School in 1964.
In the next four short years, Tina completed her bachelor’s degree at Trenton State College, planned her wedding, and married her high school sweetheart. After graduation, she went on to her chosen career in physical education, working as a teacher and continuing to bring understanding and enthusiasm to those who surrounded her.
Eventually, motherhood replaced teaching as Tina’s career. She excelled in her new role as a loving mother to two boys, a compassionate and skilled homemaker, while continuing personal pursuits. She remained involved and competitive on the tennis court, rackets and skirts travelling to several states, and even Australia, as she moved. After settling in her Savannah community, Tina competed on the tennis team, played dominoes, and line danced. She not only formed the heart of a vibrant group of women but also served as a line-dancing instructor. In this volunteer position, she showcased both her willingness to give and natural ability to lead.
To her family, Tina was the “Best All Around” wife, mother, aunt, cousin, daughter, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend. She was the center of home, welcoming everyone with warmth, security, and an ever-open door. Her gentle advice and unwavering belief in her loved ones are deeply missed and wholly irreplaceable.
Tina is survived by her beloved husband, Walter C. Lehneis Jr., of Millville; her sons and daughters in law, Walter and Renee Lehneis and Kirk and Claire Lehneis, her brother Christopher Riley, and her cherished grandchildren, Walter C. Lehneis IV, Avery R. Lehneis, Audrey B. Lehneis, Devon R. Lehneis, and Gillian R. Lehneis.
Relatives and friends are invited to join together for a viewing on Friday August 15, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and again on Saturday August 16, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:00 am at Christy Funeral Home, 11 West Broad St., Millville, NJ.
