Carole Ann Elliott Obituary

Carole Ann (Johnson) Elliott of Millville, passed away on July 18, 2025.

Carole was born on October 30, 1942, to the late Walter R. Johnson and Doris (Hires) Johnson of Millville.  She graduated from Millville Memorial High School in 1961.  She went on to graduate from Pfeiffer College in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.  In 1967, she graduated from North Carolina State University with a Master of Science in Genetics.  She began her teaching career as a Science Instructor at Bennett College for Women, located in Greensboro, NC.

While in eighth grade at Bacon School, Carole started dating Warren, son of the late Walter S. Elliott and Lillian (Badolato) Elliott of Millville.  They married in 1963, while both were students at Pfeiffer College.  In 1970, they returned to Millville, so their children would have the experience of being raised surrounded by their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.  In addition to raising their children, Steven and Suzanne, they enjoyed the blessing of two grandchildren, Meredythe and Kevin, whom they absolutely adored.  Their love story continued until Warren’s passing in 2015. In 1974, Carole resumed her educational career when she was appointed Science Department Chair at Millville Senior High School, a position she retained for nearly 30 years. She was also the faculty advisor to the Medical Explorers Club, a cooperative endeavor between MSHS and the former Millville Hospital.

Carole was a lifelong Methodist.  She joined the former Trinity Church at the age of ten by Profession of Faith.  In her younger years, she was a member of the Altar Choir, and she also was the pianist for the Wednesday night prayer meeting.  Later in life, she served as registrar for Vacation Bible School, helped serve Trinity’s monthly Community Luncheons, and was Church Historian. She also expressed her faith through the South Seaville Camp Meeting Association.  She enjoyed visiting her grandparents’ cottage in the 1950’s – 1970’s.  She became a Cottager herself in 2012, and greatly enjoyed her summers there.

Carole and Warren enjoyed vacationing in Florida, and after retirement they bought a home in Lake Wales.  While in Florida, Carole enjoyed aqua aerobics, concerts, bingo, and other activities. They loved hosting family and friends from New Jersey – especially their grandchildren – during the fall and winter seasons.  Her hobbies included reading, swimming, needlepoint, counted-cross-stitch, camping, genealogy, and playing hymns and gospel songs on the piano.

Pre-deceased by her husband Warren, brother-in-law Bill Craighead, and brother-in-law James L. Elliott; Carole is survived by her children: Steven D. Elliott (Corine) of Clarksboro, and Suzanne M. Sheppard of Millville; her grandchildren:  Meredythe C. Elliott of Clarksboro, and Kevin W. Sheppard, Jr. of Millville; her siblings: Robert E. Johnson (Sharleen) of Millville, and Donna R. Satterlee (the late Bill Craighead) of Tampa, Florida; brother-in-law Gregory S. Elliott of Millville; sister-in-law Marlene Abbott of Millville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
