Anita K. "Kaye" Vanaman, age 80, of Millville, NJ, passed away on Monday July 1, 2024 at home with her loving family by her side.

Kaye was born in Penns Grove, NJ, and was a lifelong resident of Millville, NJ. She retired from the Vineland State School Developmental Center after 25 years. Kaye made changes to create a homelike atmosphere, rather than an institution. She formed a group to raise the American Flag in the morning, and lower it in the evening, complete with uniforms and Taps. Kaye was also a staff driver/caretaker, taking groups of special needs people all over the world on vacations. She went above and beyond to see that they had a great time. She was a lifetime caretaker, and she was loved by all.

Kaye also played ball in the Millville Women’s League. She is in the 1977 Guinness Book of World Records for the longest softball game. In her free time, she was also an avid card player.

Kaye is predeceased by her parents Charlotte and Joseph Roche, and her siblings Joanne Slimmer, Coralou Miccolis, and Joseph Roche. She is survived by her son Brian Vanaman, sister Charlotte Taylor, grandchildren Ashley and Megan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be held privately. Friends and neighbors may join together for a visitation on Friday July 26, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Christy Funeral Home, 11 West Broad St., Millville, NJ. A memorial service will be begin at 11:00 am. Memories of Kaye and condolences for her family may be shared on her tribute wall.
